Dear customers and friends,

It has been a busy month here with the Panther Team. In addition to working on Open Problem Reports (OPRs) the team has been preparing for Microsoft Windows 11 Platform release. The official release date is October 2021. Our development team has been making tweaks and improvements to Panther 5.53 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Panther 64-bit

We have recently seen a surge of customers migrate from Panther 32-bit to Panther 64-bit on Windows. Some of our clients were mandated to move to 64-bit (x64) version of Windows to “future proof” their applications. In addition to taking advantage of the large amounts of memory (up to 2TB) on the 64-bit systems, Panther and other applications will be able to run simultaneously without impacting the users experience. Running your apps on a 64-bit system will help improve productivity when running memory-intensive tasks, heavy database operations, working on Virtual Machines, and opening multiple tabs in browsers.

The Panther Consulting Team will be happy to analyze your JAM or Panther application source to help determine the effort to migrate the application to a native 64-bit version. Some tips to consider.

  • Any 3rd party products interfacing with your Panther application must also be 64-bit; i.e. database drivers etc.
  • If you have 32-bit specific custom C code built into your Panther application, the source must be re-worked and your application rebuilt.
