RUN

Executes a SQL statement that does not return data to the application

Synopsis

DBMS [ WITH CONNECTION connection ] RUN SQLstatement

Arguments

WITH CONNECTION connection
Name of connection to associate with the statement. If the clause is not used, Panther issues the statement on the default connection.

SQLstatement
SQL statement (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, CREATE TABLE, etc.) to be sent to the database engine. The syntax of the statement can be the format needed by your database engine.

Description

DBMS RUN executes the SQL statement by assuming that no data are being returned and submitting the SQL to the database for immediate execution.

If, however, a data selection statement is executed (one which returns data from the database) using this immediate processing, any pending data from the database is ignored. In order to select data, use DBMS QUERY.

Example

DBMS RUN INSERT INTO actors \
(actor_id, last_name, first_name) VALUES \
(:+actor_id, :+last_name, :+first_name)
